THE MISCONCEPTIONS OF DOING WHAT YOU LOVE

ORIGINALLY POSTED IN 2012 ON focusonsimple.co

When I was growing up one of the things I was told, + which has stayed with me, is to ‘do what you love, + the money will follow‘. Not that I’m hoping to make loads of cash, rather, I’d like to support myself + family by doing something that is really fulfilling + makes the days sparkle.

Sounds great, in theory. + that’s what I’ve focused on – doing the things that I love, think that I love, searching for what I love…thinking that if I loved it, it would be easy.

But nothing worth doing is easy (see, another quote…from who? I don’t remember. I govern my life by quotes. Maybe not the best practice…). The ‘do‘ part of ‘do what you love…‘ means having to work hard, be committed, make mistakes, learn, grow, struggle through + stick with it.

Well, there are many things that I love. How are you supposed to choose the one thing that you love best, in order to put the hours in to become really successful, when you’re invigorated by doing many different things?

I’m still trying to figure that out. Hence the blog. Hence the ramblings. Hence the multiple quotes + postings of motivation + inspiration…trying to draw it out from within, to figure out how to do what I love (so the money will follow)… *here is the quote by Theodore Roosevelt

“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.”
