MAKING TIME FOR WHAT MATTERS MOST

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN 2016 ON focusonsimple.co

I recently saw the quote “‘I don’t have time’ means it’s not important to you.”

This was a wake up call for me.

I work full time, + am trying to make my side gig my real gig. I have a toddler + husband. Other family + friends. + they’re all important to me.

However.

Most/all of my ‘free time’ is spent on the side gig, so it can someday be my real gig + then I won’t have to do the ‘day job’. I keep thinking, ‘that’s when I’ll have time for the things i don’t have time for now’.

For the most part, that’s been time for friends + time for health. + my friends are beautiful + amazing + they deserve better. I’ve been so exhausted + haven’t had time for exercising or eating well, with the expected, associated results. Tired to the point that I’m getting blood work done to see if there’s any other underlying reason. But honestly, I think the results will come back to say “you need to sleep more + exercise more + watch what you eat.”

This is all totally contrary to the point of this blog, which I’m spending so much of my time on. I’m supposed to be building a simple life, one that allows me to focus on my life’s priorities. + I’m not doing that.

So over the past few days I’ve been trying to connect with my beautiful friends. Taking time to work on our home + garden. All the things I feel like I’ve been letting slip by the wayside. + Ive still had time for this project of mine. + the days have still, somehow, managed to seem slower, richer, + more in keeping with the life I’ve been desiring to build.

Building a lifestyle that you want to live takes time + attention. Much like a long term relationship. You’ll be trucking along, everything seemingly fine, + then you’ll realise that you’re actually missing the point. So you reassess, adjust, + continue on.

There is no one-size fits-all, magic one-time, quick fix for living the life you want. It happens with intention, one day at a time.
