EASY, GREEN, CLEAN

I have to tell you, I’m actually a little surprised this isn’t something I’ve written about before, because easy green DIY cleaning is something we’ve been doing for a good long while in our home. It’s been on my mind more these days as I think about how we’re looking to dive even deeper into the realm of simplicity + self-sufficiency. + as I learn, I will share with you.

GREEN CLEANING!

Why green cleaning, you ask?

It lowers your exposure to toxic synthetic chemicals.
In most cases [or all, as I’ve found], it’s cheaper.
+, most importantly, IMHO, it’s easy.

Why is this important right now?

Well, friends, we’re housebound.
Job security might not be so secure.
Our earth is calling us to do a better job of how we do.
+ this is an area of our daily life that is now critical to uplevel.

But I don’t like to DIY!

To be completely honest, I don’t necessarily like to DIY either. Prior to tackling any DIY I’m always convinced that it’s going to be horribly complicated – it rarely is, but that’s how it seems at first. There’s some tension between knowing how I want to spend my time [family, creating, learning, connecting to spirituality], + living out life in a way that’s aligned with values [low environmental impact, less consumption, less waste, etc]. The later can require a time commitment, + time is something I don’t like to spend frivolously. It goes by too fast already. Why do I want to spend it DIYing? Because the results it nets are more important, that’s why.

DIYing your cleaners is a very simple + effective way to clean up your home – literally, + also in the toxic/synthetic chemicals you’re being exposed to. There is a growing body of evidence that shows how incredibly harmful the rows upon rows of modern day cleaners are that line the shelves of our shops. It takes awareness, commitment, + some time up front to research what’s really in the products we’re used to buying. So when I find something that I can trust, I stick with it, cuz I don’t want to have to go through the process of anaylizing + researching ingredients for each new product. There are more + more resources to make this process easier, + I’ll share everything I’ve found so far at the bottom of this post.

But before that! Here are the very easy, very effective, + very cheap DIY cleaners we use in our home! My best advice on DIYing, if it’s not something you’re familiar with or have a lot of experience with, is to just pick something simple to start. These are all very simple recipes, but will yield high impact in ditching the toxins + cleaning up your home!

STINK! MOVIE

This was eye opening in the lobbying that happens + how little consumers are protected, particularly if caution or protection comes at the cost of a manufacturer/business’ bottom line. Not ok.
