Why I want you to find your purpose :
For so long I put off embracing a purposeful life because of what I felt I should do – the right, expected, + appropriate course of action. ‘Right’ as defined by others. People pleasing. Denying who I was.
Please don’t do that.
I deserve better + so do you.
What is ‘purpose’ :
It’s all well + good to desire to live purposeful life, but what does that look like? For me, it’s a life lived with meaning + intention. Day-to-day activities, the bold + the small, that let you live in a meaningful way. That will look different for everyone, but in general, a day spent living meaningfully is deeply satisfying + fulfilling. You feel as though you are honouring your soul. You feel like you could meet your maker + honestly say you made the most of the life you had to live.
One of the main reasons I desire our family to live a simple, minimalist, focused, + filtered life is to make the space I need to not just find my purpose, but to live it.
I’ve been trying to figure out what my passion + purpose is for a while. A lifelong journey that has become more clear in the last 14 months or so as we’ve faced a number of unexpected challenges.
The benefit of having challenges come into your life is that you really gain an understanding of what is unequivocally important to you – what you want to make sure you’ve spent your life doing when you get to the end of it. The things that bring meaning to my life are my family, being expressive + creative, + finding a way to use my gifts + talents to give back – to make a positive impact.
That’s it, that’s all. If this is what I can say I was able to spend my life doing + being it will have been a good one.
It’s also a luxury to be able to really ‘find your purpose/live your purpose’. We currently do not worry about where our next meal will come from. We do not have to fear for our son’s safety, well being, + opportunity for play, education, availability of health care. As much as I’ve struggled with intense + dark emotions + poor self-image, I have had a stable support network. Which is why it’s so important for me to find my purpose, live my purpose, use my purpose to give back + help others. I have no excuse, no reason not to.
One of my biggest beliefs is that we’re all connected, we’re all here together, + we should do what we can to help each other out.
FOCUSonSIMPLE was my journey to create space in my life to focus on that which is the most precious + important, to find what stirs my soul + to work tirelessly for that in a way that creates a positive + lasting impact on the world around us.
Big aims? Yes. Sound a little pie-in-the-sky? Maybe. But is that a reason not to try? No. This is my one shot + I want to do my best.
